Support for Women and Teenage Children
SWATCH is a women-led, non-profit organisation. We run health, education and livelihood programmes for the families who need them most, and we have done this work with partners such as FHI 360, Chemonics International and the Society for Family Health.
What we work on
Health and the care of orphans and vulnerable children are where our experience runs deepest. Around them we work on the wider conditions that keep families poor or unwell.
Health
Fair access to good health care, with a long record in HIV prevention, testing, care and support.
Orphans and vulnerable children
Care, protection and support for children made vulnerable by HIV, poverty and violence, and for the households that look after them.
Education
Getting girls into school and keeping them there until they finish.
Nutrition and food security
Safe, nutritious and sufficient food for every household, to end hunger and malnutrition.
Gender and social inclusion
Equal participation for women and marginalised groups in every part of community life.
Economic empowerment
Skills, savings and enterprise for women and young people, so families can stand on their own.
Agriculture and climate change
Better farming practice that raises yields while reducing harm from a changing climate.
Water, sanitation and hygiene
Clean water, decent sanitation and good hygiene practice for every household.
Human rights and protection
Upholding the rights and dignity of every person through advocacy, awareness and accountability.
Peace building and good governance
Dialogue, social cohesion and citizen participation in transparent, accountable government.
Led by women, working for everyone
SWATCH was formed by a group of professional women and men who were worried about the toll HIV and AIDS was taking on families in Kano, and about the number of girls who never enrolled in school or dropped out before finishing.
Today we are headed by women and we work with women, girls, children and the wider community. We are non-governmental, non-partisan, non-religious and not-for-profit, and we are registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

- Nine permanent staff, three temporary staff and more than 80 volunteers

An HIV prevention programme run with Chemonics International to raise awareness, encourage safer behaviour, expand HIV testing and make sure people who test positive are linked to treatment.
